ABOUT US!!!

Many ask how we came by our Stud’s name.

“Abba” is the diminutive of Father in Aramaic – as in  “Little Daddy” – and we had a little one of them at the beginning – Sparkie.  A “Diva” is a Grand Lady of note – and Gina qualifies right down the line.  And my late friend Winifred Richardson in Gore helped coin the name – “Abba-Diva”

Our family had Welsh ponies and Arabian horses over many years, but always too little time remained after attending to flocks of sheep to show horses during these very busy years.

Some “Littlies” began to appear at the farm in the early 1990’s and Mum ( i.e. Valda ) suggested we breed “one or two – just for fun.”  We know  that you simply cannot have one or two Miniatures – their numbers grew.

Soon we needed our own stallion – enter Sparkie in Spring of 1996 – he was a two year old then.  I purchased him on a Tuesday, he took his first Supreme award the following Saturday in the North Island, and then was shipped south – all within a week.

Numbers grew; horses came and some went.  We imported six mares and a senior stallion from Lucky Four farms in North Carolina, USA – they arrived October 1997.  , October 2000, two more females arrived from the Lucky Four Sale, and also a leased mare from Wildflower Lodge, Queensland, Australia.

Valda (at 83) is the energy behind Abba-Diva’s operation, and the one whose vision leads.  At home she encourages, advises, makes covers and rugs, caters for Guests and remembers pedigrees and people.
